The East Kentucky Regional ATV Club is a non-profit/not for profit organization based in Hazard, Perry County, Kentucky, located in the eastern region of the state. Because of the natural geography of this region, there is a large population which owns and operates ATVs, making ATV riding one of the most popular outdoor activities in Eastern Kentucky. It is a sport that reaches people from all walks of life, and serves as a bridge for communication. The East Kentucky Regional ATV Club was founded based upon a community need for a way of bringing families and individuals together to share the common interest in ATV-related sports, to provide safety training, education, and act as a resource for those interested in the sport.
The primary focus of the East Kentucky Regional ATV Club is two-fold: To encourage the safe, responsible enjoyment of ATVs and to broaden the public's knowledge of the sport. By promoting safe riding through education and training for both adults and children, the hope is to build a knowledgeable group of people throughout the region who are then able to reach out to others in the community to share that knowledge. By providing education and training and the promotion of common values, our hope is to bring about a safer riding community.
ATV riders, whether as groups or as individuals, often have reputations that are tainted by news reports of accidents and injuries resulting from improper or irresponsible use. By teaching riders the proper techniques and promoting the use of these techniques as a requirement for membership, our aim is to bring about changes in the way riders behave and thus change the public's perception. This includes a zero tolerance policy for any member who uses drugs or alcohol during an active ride, which would result in the immediate termination of that person's membership in the Club.
Another aim of the East Kentucky Regional ATV Club is to create a map of existing ATV trails, both public and private, as well as promote new trail development through purchase or lease of lands, maintain and repair existing trails and engage with other local club trails. By encouraging proper use of trails, we also hope to help create a better land owner/land user relationship.
